Elaine Burke Matherly Rootsweb genealogy gives name as James William Burke, but there are already 2 Williams in the family so I am not sure of that.
2."James was the 11th child of Jonathan and Hannah. After his marriage he moved to burke's Landing in Union County, Arkansas. He operated a store and sold port and venison to the passing boatd. He would take a raft of sawed logs to New Orleans. Burke's Landing was on the Ouachita River. He would take some of his slaves on the trip to New Orleans with the raft.
In 1845 he came to Texas with his family and settled at Liberty on East Texas and in 1850 moved to Fayette County near La Grange and in 1851 moved to O'Quin about halfway between LaGrange and in 1852 moved to four miles east of Flatonia (Old OSO) on the old Flatonia-Schulenburg road. Part of his children were born in Arkansas and the other in Texas. Letter Heard to Freytag 9/13/1962
